Adjusting Experian credit report

I have two default notices from Lloyds on my credit report. They say that I defaulted in June 2003, when I had in fact defaulted far earlier than that (sometime around 2001 would be the first point of default).
The debts are fully paid now, cleared them in January 07 (after having agreed in the period in between to a regular payment which I never missed) - but I'm still not eligible for things like the 30% credit cards, so I'm presuming it's still having an effect on me.
Will the bank adjust the date? If they do so, will it mean that the default will drop off?
