Any one ever do football refereeing?
How much do you get paid, and how many games can you do a week?
I think the FA are running free courses to get more officials in grassroots levels, so to train yourself will be free also

It ranges greatly depending on how you apply yourself like most jobs from free (petrol paid) in local leagues up to the top 10 refs in the country that earn about £50K from the PL plus extra's for UEFA/CL and national matches. Until recently even the top refs did refing as a hobby or 2nd job.
ps. The info on top refs was discussed recently by former ref graham poll. They discussed refs getting paid more to bridge a little more of the pay gap to players.0 -
A few years ago it used to be £20 per match, think its around £25-28 these days. Used to do up to 4 a week sometimes 6 in the summer. They like you to do at least 1 a week though as a minimum0

For our satruday refs, we currently pay £20 plus £1 per mile travel expenses (most refs claim about £3)
I've enquired about refereeing at my local 5-a-side centre and they pay £40 a night which is for 5x40 minute matches.0 -
If you go onto www.theFA.com and click on grassroots and find your local FA you will find information regarding ref training. Our league pays £19.00 per game. Hope thats of some help.0

In my sunday league, we pay refs £18.
That's £12 per hour - Not a bad rate !!0 -
In our league in Essex the rate paid depends on the age of the teams-
11-16 is £20 per game
17 up is £25 per game.
They also do a scheme that if you take the course and complete 11 games within the league they refund the cost of your course.
I think there is a system where you can claim travel exp for example if you live in southend and are asked to ref in dagenham that is considered extra travel. your best bet is to contact your local FA's referee officer- I believe that for youth football you have to be CRB checked now as well.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."

Is it worth all the abuse you get?0

My uncle used to referee the old second division, he earned a nice amount because he put straight into buying a detached house.. well over 2 my budget

On the other hand a family friend does minor league games and earns between £50 per match. He doesn't happen to get many, although it's always been something I've personally been interested in doing.

I agree with PAD, theres been a big thing on sky sports news about respecting the ref. Some real horror stories about verbal and physical abuse.Smile!0
