partner and i have split - little boy to look after - advice needed

hi all

my partner and i have broken up. we are still living in our house together with our little boy. we have agreed that the house must be sold as neither of us could afford the mortgage on our own. we love our boy very much and have agreed that sharing custody would be best for him. we need to buy two houses to do this. we looked at the penalty payment and it is around £8000. if we go to our mortgage provider - C&G - and ask that we want to mortgages from them (probably lending more than the original amount) would we still have to pay this penalty? do you think this would be acceptable to them? thanks for any advice or comments you may have.

maybe the only way out of the fee would be to ask if you could port the mortgage over to 2 products instead?

the worst they can say is no.
