Christening - Church Fee?

Hi All,

Just wondered if any of you had organised christenings how much the church had cost you.

The church fee for our wedding was £200, I am hoping a christening will be cheaper. (Am talking to the vicar again next week, but just wanted a general idea for the budget in the mean time).

Thanks,
Flis

My children were christened as part of the normal Sunday service and there were no fees for this at all.

When my two were christened, we were asked to make a donation of whatever we could afford. Gave £50 each time. My rector said it's his job to get more people to become christians and therefore no charge!

My father in law is a vicar.
He always christens the children after the morning service. There is no charge.
Many vicars will christen many children together. Not that my father in law does it that way. He likes to christen each child seperately.
There is usually a collection plate left at the door as everyone leaves for a donation.

Christenings & baptisims are free, however some churches will only do them as part of the normal Sunday service while others offer a "private" or "mutiple" (several children baptized a in one service) baptism service after the Sunday morning service or in the afternoon. You cannot usually have baptisms outside of the indvidual churches preferred times, and it is customary to make a donation to the church. We gave £75 for our sons private baptism.

My daughter was baptised as a baby and more recently dedicated at the church we now attend (we practise believer baptisms) and neither cost me more than an offering.

Thanks for all your replies. The vicar is doing it for us straight after the normal Sunday services and he is only christening our son at the service.
