Hi all. Questions about my credit and what to do.....

Hi all

I don't have that much to clear now as have been paying it off. I've only got £600 left to clear.

I've been refused for everything though.... and because of so many late payments i don't even think me and my partner are going to pass checks to rent a house. We badly need to move away from the area we live in. In fact its an emergency.

Anyway. I got a letter about one unsettled bill 3 months ago from north hampton courts..... I live in Suffolk.....Please forgive me for bing so dumb at all this!!! But was that a CCJ?!?!?! I made one of the installments and then buried my head in the sand (i know i shouldnt have) So then about a month ago i had a 'pre-bailiff' visit from a man (quite a friendly man actually!) And i settled the rest of the bill straight away. !

My questions are:

  • Was that a CCJ?
  • When i settle the 3 small remaining amounts i owe... What happens to my score?
  • Can you pay to remove bad points or anything???
  • Once i am back to zero, how do you repair or make your credit better
  • How long does it take?
Thanks for any advice guys, i love this site!!!!

xxx

    Hiya

Defaults and the like stay on your credit record for 6 years. Even when they are paid off, they are marked as satified not removed.

    County Court judgement

If there is no default, you might want to give that debt priority? Otherwise pay the minimum and then pay extra off the most expensive debt.
    • Can you pay to remove bad points or anything???
No - there are companies that say they can help you but the default stays for th full 6 years. We can check to make sure that your credit check indicates that the debt is satisfied.

Keep a clean record for a few years
    • How long does it take?
    To completely clear, 6 years

If partners credit record in a better state than yours? Can he make the tenancy in his sole name. Or contact landlords directly rather than through and agency.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Thank you for your post! Unfortunately my credit is better than my partners!

I'll get it all cleaned up asap anyway and never fall into any such trap again!!!

I heard that getting a mobile phone contract and similiar things can improve credit....hmm

    Thanks xxx
  • c c j is county court judgement and when you have one of them it is difficult to get any credit and even more so at the moment-there are a few unscruplous companys that offer loans and cards to even those with poor credit history but check out the apr its horrendous
its a difficult situation with renting but some people may not credit check-try a ad from a paper from someone renting privatly rather than a company
    good luck
oh mobile contracts are not that easy to get with c c j on file either
goal for 2014....i will manage money better ..must resist shopping..............:A

    Hi

It doesn't matter what you try to do to rebuild your credit rating, if there is a CCJ appearing on your credit file it's pretty much game over, and a six year wait til it disappears.

Get big things like that sorted first, then look at getting any data errors corrected, then start rebuilding.

    Very best of luck,
    UNDERGROUND :D

    I'm so gutted.

I was so stupid when i was younger with store cards etc.

But can someone just confirm for me (because i am completely stupid with these things) and i need to know exactly where i stand...

I had the letter from NORTHAMPTON COURT asking me to clear a sum of money on behalf of GE MONEY. That was a County court judgement right???? (its paid now) - does that count for anything?

So i'm definately 'screwed' for 6 years and theres absolutely nothing i can do?.... It doesn't say County court judgement anywhere on the letter..

:( I wish my parents had warned me about all of this. Not blaming them but at 18 i was so naive and they push the store cards etc on you so much when your that age.... they don't bother asking me now, probably because i look more sensible now!

Was that definately a CCJ for me then? :(

    I've just read a small part of it - It says;

Do not ignore this claim form. If you do nothing, judgement may be entered against you without further notice. This will make it difficult for you to get credit.

Thats what it said.............I did ignore it............and the bailiffs came and i borrowed off my mum to pay......

    I don't understand it :(:(:(

From what you describe it does sound like you have a CCJ.

When a DCA applies for a CCJ a defense pack is sent to the debtor if this is ignored then a default judgement is entered by the court, meaning you get a CCJ and the money owed is due in full within 14 days, if it isnt paid within 14 days then the DCA can apply to court for a warrent of execution so that they can use bailiffs to recover the money

Northhampton county court is a bulkprocessing centre for CCJs so many applications for CCJs are made here by DCAs
