Does your DH have much knowledge of the household expenses, or is he a little ignorant of the way things are going up? Is it possible to increase your housekeeping budget a little?
Also, why not:
educate DH & children into the cost of things, & how to cut costs a little (turn lights off, don't run hot tap to wash but use the plug etc)
buy a breadmaker - gorgeous fresh bread!
shop online - no impulse buys & greener too!
share nursery trips with other mums? or walk if possible?
make a start by growing some salad leaves & tomatoes in your garden - easy & cheap to get started
If all else fails, why not put DH & kids onto Ebay or even freecycle?!0 -
Also meant to say regarding the petrol/fuel thing by driving smoothly (i.e. getting it up through the gears as quickly and smoothly as you can, no sharp braking if you can avoid it) and no speeding you can increase your fuel economy. My Dad seemed surprised when I had his car which does 20 mpg, I managed to get this to 27 mpg just by following the principles of smooth driving and keeping to 65 in a 70 mph zone. always keep a few miles under the speed limit and it really reduces the amount of fuel used.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Hello
I m a Chef and im currently reassessing the prices on my menus, its quite shocking to see the amount food has increased in the 6 months since these menus were written and some dishes are showing a 15 to 20 % increase in the cost of putting a dish together ....and its not finished yet with more food price increases pending this year:eek:
Rather than trying to pass the cost onto customers im currently taking the food back further to its natural ingredients than previously(making the breads for dinner rather than buying it etc etc)0 -

Doesn't it depend on what the speed limit is? Isn't about 50-55 mph the most efficient speed?.....0 -
Mummytofour there's a similar thread on saving the pennies on the OS board if you're interested:-

Very true but I was informed by a friend who is a traffic cop you're more likely to get pulled over if doing 50 in a 70 in ok weather conditions as they think you're either drunk, drugged, driving without insurance/license so thats why I stick to 65 in a 70 unless the road's wet.

Not in a 30-limit zone...when you factor in the speeding fines! :rotfl:0 -
