Previous tenant`s statements/mail question!

Hi,
I have a question about mail for the previous tenant at my address. I started renting exactly 2 months ago and the first month received a lot of mail for the previous tenant, landlord had no forwarding address and I took a whole envelope full of mail to the estate agent to see if they could forward it but the guy seemed uninterested so i dont know if it ever got forwarded.
So the past month I have been returning all post to sender but am still receiving mail, looks like a lot of bank/ credit card statements and BT bills which I have been returning to sender every time but they still come through.
Anyway my question is what happens if the previous tenant has not given these companies their new address do they keep bombarding the address with letters or do they give up eventually!?

They stop eventually, we keep getting mail after moving in June last year!!! But the companies have a system whereby it takes at least a couple of months for the message to get through.
As long as you have informed all the companies oon the date you moved in you will not be liable for any bills previous to this. Eventually they will stop just keep on sending them back to sender.0 -
We still get post from the previous owners - we moved in Feb 2000! I've given up sending stuff back to sender unless it looks like it isn't junk.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0

I return it to sender marked 'no longer at this address' for 6 months, then burn it. If it looks like a debt letter then keep sending it back marked as the above.0
