Friday 18/04/08 What small dfw things have you done today???

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging the washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Today I will:
  • Check online banking
  • Clicks
  • storecupboard lunch
  • Cook tea for oldies and eat for free
  • Batch cook some meals for freezer
  • Start a new batch of kefir
  • make a loaf in breadmaker
Hope you all have a good day:D
Hi to any new posters:D

  • Hi everyone, I am new to this, so please bear with me, I have been lurking for the past week or so reading all of your posts though.

I have had a "lightbulb moment" as you call it, and wanted to share some of the small things I have done to curb my spending and help pay of my debts:-

    - Cancelled 2 magazine subscriptions (quite an acheivement for me!)
    - Counted up my penny jar and banked £9.00.
    - Opened an ISA (with Passbook so cannot withdraw without actually treking into town!)
    - Looked into Mystery Shoppers.
    - Sending off 2 old mobile phones for £50.00.

  • Sorry about abrupt end to post - computer has mind of it's own!

Morning' everyone... hello to new poster too!! Thanks again sophiesmum (and those who post this thread up if sm hasn't - it's now part of my morning routine and keeps me focused all day on being a DFW... thanks for the added motivation!)

Oo I have done something good today already.
    - I got my new 0% credit card in the post last night - 10 months on both transfers and purchases, so first thing this morning, I called up and activated it, and at the same time, BT'd across my two outstanding credit cards. And I registered for online banking with it too, as I find that's the easiest way to keep an eye on things and pay off a little extra when I can. :T
    - I will call Co-op later and cancel the old card with them & send a letter to confirm it. Then I am going to CUT IT UP hurrah.
    - Checked online banking this morning, my expenses haven't cleared yet :( but my last credit card payment did in time for no late charge :)
[STRIKE] - Checked mystery shopping sites, but nothing yet. Will look again later.[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE] - Will file a MS report later on from previous job[/STRIKE]
    - Drinking free coffee at work instead of buying posh one despite having sizeable hangover from last night's festivities / lack of sleep (a brilliant 2 things in 1 night, both fun - a free drinks party thing and a free work dinner - total cost to me: £6 to get back into work this morning where my car is - AWESOME).
    - Have parents coming to visit tonight/tomorrow to help us lay a patio in our garden meaning no outlay on a professional, plus we bought it from a discount place near them, saving 50% (£140!) off the cost of a similiar one where we live. Delivery from my folks for £15 petrol.
    - Need to do our fortnightly grocery shop online today, so will look for good deals and special offers to save some £. [STRIKE]And a code on here so delivery will end up free.[/STRIKE]
    - Will stay in tonight and cook for everyone instead of going out and drink wine we were given before as a gift.
    - Probably going to give in and go out for lunch today with colleague, but I have at least planned for this. And I have to be able to survive the afternoon somehow...

This will make you laugh - I actually dreamt about my debts last night, and how much and in what order I wanted to pay things off etc. THAT is how much time I have spent on this site lately. :rotfl:
