retirement investment advice

Hi all
My partner is due to take early retirement very soon and will receive a lump some of around 55k plus a monthy sum of about £1500. What would be the best way to invest the lump sum. she already has used up her Isa entitlement. Any suggestion welcome

    what is her income and how old is she?
    is there going to be benefits of any sort?
    how does this money fit in with her overall portfolio of savings and investments?
    how does her financial position fit in with yours?
    what is her investment knowledge and experience?

    tax position basic rate
    the aims are high interest no risk instant access
    gross incom £1800 p/m
    age 53
    no benfits
    she has £12k in cash ISA and 6K in e-saver acct
    her finances are seperate
    knowledge zero

    The only place there is really no risk is Northern Rock or National Savings products.
