Free perfume samples

Dear fellow freebie hunters
When I first read these pages, I was amazed to learn that posh department stores actually have little bottles of perfume which they are supposed to give us- the customers- as free samples. My sister and I decided to devote one whole saturday in town to getting some of these little goodies. However, this expedition was not as fruitful as we would have liked. We seemed to get the back up of many of the shop assistants by asking for free samples. We said
" Hi, Im looking for a fragrace for my sister as a birthday present. Would you be able to give me some fragrance samples to take away and try on her please?"
and was met by a wall, as the shop assistant said
" sorry no we dont do free samples unless you BUY something first"
We suspect that the shop assistants are keeping the free samples as a perk of the job! Any advice on how we can do better next time?
Thanks loads
PS we LOVE these pages!

lol - I just say that the manager sent me over - I've then been given boxes and boxes...
Well, about 10 :- ) - aftershave that is...
Generally they give you a few other samples with a bottle you buy - hopefully to entice you into buying more at a later date.
What makes me laugh the most is that many of the 'expensive' perfumes and aftershaves are made in the same factory that makes such wonderful products a Ajax, flash etc.
Suddenly that £40 bottle of perfume smells all that more expensive.Tim0 -
i wonder if it would be worth asking a manager? i often find if you seem to know what youre talking about they can be very reasonable! say you did a find out which perfume suits me quiz and ...........fragrance was recommendedYour greatness is measured by your kindness; your education and intellect by your modesty; your ignorance is betrayed by your suspicions and prejudices, and your real caliber is measured by the consideration and tolerance you have for others.

Other people have suggested that you let the assistants know that you have sensitive skin and want to take a sample home, so that you can see if you have any adverse reactions after a couple of uses.0

Hiya, I consider it a 'perk' when I go to shop in Liverpool to visit 'big shops' and, being cheeky (but very polite!) I ask for perfume samples.
I always say that i'm allergic to some perfumes "so can I take some samples home to try?" Usually works!!!! Good luck.:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing0 -
I think sometimes if the shop assistant thinks you look too young they won't give you any samples, because they think you haven't got the money to spend.
Go in tarted up, smothered in makeup and reeking of some other perfume, and they'll probably be all over you.
(You could also say there's no point testing the perfume in the shop because it'll clash with the one you're already wearing!)

Boots are quite good and their staff are lovely.I even have my 13yr old son asking for these freebies now. He even asked of his own accord at the duty free at Glasgow airport and was really chuffed to be given a small plastic case with 3-4 samples of some smelly creams and things. That was until I pointed out that the freebie he had been given was for females. Never mind he gave it to one of his friends as a pressie from his hols!! LOL!!:j0

when I was in bloomingdales in NYC a few years back, anything you bought clotheswise, was put in a big brown bag which was topped up with at least 6 sample after shave, perfume, etc; what a fab idea, typical in UK you have to beg for a 5ml minisample....ripoff Britain strikes again!!!0
