Baking Powder In Scones?

This is possibley a stupid question, if it is then I appologise ~:D
Do you need to put baking powder in scones? DD and I hate the stuff, it feels 'dry' in the mouth if there is loads in a recipe. What does baking powder actually do? If it is simply a case of helping them to rise, could I not use less, or maybe SR flour, which I think has a little in it?
Any ideas?

You only need it if you use plain flour, if you use self-raising - you don't need it. You can easily remove it.
Its just a raising agent.
I never use it in my scones as its not something I buy. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I hate that feeling of baking powder/bicarb overload!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Maybe some people are more sensitive to the taste than others.... and I don't think it was a stupid question at all!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I just use Smart Price self-raising white flour for mine with no added bicarb/baking power and family love them.0
