CAB or Solicitor?

Well I split from my boyfriend of almost 4 years last June, and stupidly, i took a lot of credit for both of us, but in my own name!
Since then I've payed about £4500 out to these creditors etc, but I've still got more i have to pay, must be approx £2500, and i'm Unemployed.
I am wondering if i see a solicitor, is there a way they can get him to pay his part of the bills, like the gas/electric, council tax, and the overdrafts and creditcards i took to pay the bills and rent!
Or should i just go to CAB and get a payment plan sorted for the rest and learn from my stupid mistake!
Thanks in advance

I'd go to CAB in the first instance as they may be able to advise whether it is possible a solicitor would be able to do anything.
Have you talked to your ex about this? After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110 -

As im sure you know as debts are in your name only then you are the only person liable for them.
Suppose it would be possible for you to sue your ex for some of the debt if it was spent on/for him, or if he had agreed to pay for whatever percentage of the credit.
Id imagine that this would be tricky to prove as it would more or less be his word against yours for any agreement the 2 of you had made0 -
yeah thats what i thought, i've still got text messages from him on my phone sayin that he would pay all of the debt coz he didnt want me to be left with it etc, but i never had a penny from him! would this go as proof?0

If im honest Im not sure, but would think that the strength of your case would need looking at by a solicitor.
If you went to your local CAB they should have a list of local solicitors that they could put you in touch with that would give you (at least) a free consultation.
However if he locked up and therefore not working even if you sued him for the money how would he pay you it except in small token monthly payments?0 -
thats exactly what i thought chez, just i have been told by multiple people i should get him to pay it, but i cant wait for months til he gets out for him to start sending me a few quid now and again, i need it payed now!
ill go and see the CAB anyway and just mention it and see what they think!
Thanks for your help
