Is anyone finding that the DM book token from friday is not scanning? Even the ones with clearish barcodes?

I thought I would have a problem as they are all a bit fuzzy but they seem to go through ok, I don't use ss though.

I posted late yesterday on the newspaper thread re coupons.

The link I posted did not post exactly as I listed so I Edited and deleted.

    Go to http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt

    THEN ADD

    after Debt(forward slash)SaveMoney(forward slash)TheDeathOfTheCoupon.aspx

    Also Google..... 2D barcode....

You will see some of these 2D barcodes already arriving on some of your post and parcels but mainly on privatised post courriers

    NEWS

I have been having difficulty getting on the interweb from my early morning location hence the peace and quiet you have had from me for over a year!

I am giving up newspapers on 26th April

Thank you all those regular early posters on these threads I have kept an eye on various discussions

The US has a completely different coupon system than we use here in the UK, so the article shouldn't really be taken to apply to the UK (yet). In the US there are hundreds of coupons published in newspapers, typically on Sundays. You are only able to use the coupons on the items you purchase. So, coupons are plentiful but you have to actually match them to products you buy. The best deal hunters and websites match up sales (like BOGO) with coupons to give extra bang for the buck. The time and effort is in having to track the coupons.

In the UK, coupons are relatively rare and when you do see one there are only maybe 1 or 2 in the paper on a good day. However, being able to use them on anything is the benefit.

In the US, most people see coupons as a hassle because of having to sort through the hundreds and find what you want, and then remember to use it for that item when you purchase it. That's why the article makes sense in that environment.

For the UK, you don't have to keep track of much besides expiration date (and even that isn't a hard rule). You just have to collect the coupons you see, like we do here in the board. The hassle of keeping organized and clipping through hundreds isn't as much of a problem here.

The hope is that these electronic discounts will revive the dying coupon business. Only 0.5% of the 285 billion coupons issued last year were redeemed, according to coupon processor NCH, down from an average of 1% a decade ago.

It's a good job we are trying to our very best to keep NCH in business then ! :rotfl:
Part of the problem is that newspaper readership is declining, so fewer people are looking at the Sunday circulars. The younger shoppers sought by marketers read their news online. And fewer people these days have time to clip, organize and sort coupons each week

Obviously don't know about MSE, this forum and, in particular, this daily thread.
