Right to buy Council House

Options
We have been offered our house from the council for a discount of 37% but dont have a clue whether to go to a high street lender or an internet based one. everything is so confusing. Also my partner already had a flat which he sold when he moved in so, strictly speaking, we are not first time buyers or do we still qualify for that? We dont have a deposit, but could we say on the online forms that the discount amount is our deposit? Anyone any ideas who the best mortgage providers are anyway?

  • Go to https://www.unbiased.co.uk and search for an Independent Financial Adviser in your area. E-mail/call them and make sure thay are advising from the 'whole of the market' and are happy to simply be paid by the 'fee' that they get from the lender for placing the application with them i.e. you will not have to pay them for the advice.

Once you have that clear you can get them doing the work for you. Not all lenders will offer mortgages on right to buy council properties but a good adviser will be able to compare and contrast all those on offer for you and answer all of your questions.

Hope this helps - good luck!

Thank you for your info but, unfortunately, there are no advisers within a 200 mile radius of me!!!
  • But there are advisers who will do the work by post/e-mail. At least give one a call and chat through the process/options available to you.

Does anyone on here know of any websites with mortgage info on. Charol used to offer a good service but it now costs a fiver to register.

Alliance & Leicester, Halifax, Nationwide, Cheltenham & Gloucester all offer mortgages on Right to Buy properties and I believe have fairly competitive rates.

    Good luck.
