SuzySu's debt free diary

I am really so inspired reading other people's diaries, their struggles, their suggestions and having a virtual shoulder to cry on when things look a bit pants that I would like to start one too.
Everyone on here is so supportive of each other's achievements, no matter how small and I would love to be a part of that.
So, for those that have not read my other threads, here goes:
I am a mum to three teenagers and live with my partner who I have been with since 2001.
We have unsecured debts amounting to, roughly, £12,000 - a mixture of overdrafts and credit cards. The mortgage and secured loan on our property costs us over £1950 a month  which, after other bills, has left us with very little to live on (hence the CCs).
It has come to the stage where we are selling our house (because we can no longer afford the repayments of the 2 mortgages) which should free up £500 or so per month to throw at our debts. Last night we accepted an offer on our house which will pay off the mortgage, sec loan, EA fees, sols fees and HIP but will not leave us with a bean towards our rent - major problem.
So there you have it - 2 adults, 3 kids, a fat cat and a mad chocolate labrador looking for a new home.
Our plan is to emigrate to SA in August 2009, but I really want the debt cleared before we go if we can. We also need to find the money to pack up our stuff and go (which will be roughly £10,000 for our furniture, pets and us) so that's a lot of money to find in the next 16 months. Can we fix it......yes we can!

You'll do this!!! Mammy to 2 boys aged 5 and 20 -
Hi SuzySu
We are in much the same position as you and because we've overspent and remortgaged so many times we now find ourselves having to sell our home. We will come out with nothing but will be debt free. We are also off to Aussie - was hoping this year but will now have to rent here for a while in order to save up some extra money to get out there. Anyway, what's done is done and we just have to stay positve0 -
Hi Helbel and welcome to the forums
Sorry to hear you are in a similar situation to us. It's really sad having to sell your home but it's only bricks and mortar at the end of the day. Being debt free (or well on the way to) is far more important and that's what is keeping me going at the moment.
Good luck with your emigration plans - keep us posted. Do you have family out there?YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

Just a quick update - I lost my internet icon (and therefore my lifeline  ) on my home PC last night, so am posting from work. I need to get over to the techie board to find out how to sort it as I need my fix in the evenings!!YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

Well I'm pleased to say that the icon has 'magically' reappeared on my 'puter (don't have a clue about them really) so I can get my fix in the evenings.
Had a frustrating 1.5 hour coversation/argument with Tiscali last night that left me with a headache and a rash(!) BUT did result in the Director of Operations emailing me today with the most grovelling apology I have ever seen from a corporation.
He has also offered something as a gesture of goodwill for the past six months of cr*p service and I must decide what I feel is reasonable. Well.....I had a few ideas last night but, on reflection, maybe they don't seem quite so reasonable today
Anyway, apart from that not a lot has happened today. Hope you have all had good days and at least it's the weekend tomorrow.....yea!YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

Good news today.....the 'Sold' board has gone up outside our house :T :T :T
It's a psychological boost only, but that's all it takes sometimes. Fingers crossed the chain holds together....YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
