HSBC Credit Card - Adjustments to your Account ?? !!!!!!??

Hi All,
Long time reader, first time poster.
I have an HSBC Morrisons Credit Card (had it for years; spend £1000 get £15 vouchers or some such nonsense). I always pay the balance off in full every month; as I use the card mainly for online purchases or larger purchases from brick and mortar stores.
Anyway, while checking the statement online using Internet Banking, it seems there are two transactions on the account that I don't remember on there. Both are labelled in the discription as "ADJUSTMENT TO YOUR ACCOUNT" and both are for £38.82. The first transaction is crediting my card with that amount, and the second is deducting it.
Of course, the first thing I did was contact the bank. That was about as useful as a chocolate fire guard; they comment was "we credited you with money we shouldn't have, so we debited it back again". Thats fair enough, but what extactly does it mean when it says "ADJUSTMENT TO YOUR ACCOUNT" ? There were no other transaction details on there, except that.
The woman on the phone just kept repeating the same thing "we credited your account... blah, blah".
What I want to know is, has anyone ever come across this before ? What does it mean ? Any why would they do that ?
It may seem i'm making a mountain out of a molehill, but I keep tight control of my money, and I like to at least try to understand whats gone on.
Thanks in advance
Mike

perhaps they put somebody elses payment on your account and had to take it off again.0

A similar thing happened to me with my Capital One credit card (this was when their new website went live).
I sent them a series of e-mails using their online secure message service (available when you log in); however they never replied. So I sent more messages, indicating my concern that my account had been compromised etc and that I was very concerned that Capital One were ignoring my secure e-mails.
I managed to get £12 out of them for the stress I had to endure!!!0 -
Just sounds like they've done some internal admin on your account, shouldn't cause you a problem unless the amount you have to pay has changed.0

I think they made a mistake here and reversed it.
Probably not anything to worry about but it would be nice if they admitted that it was a mistake and apologised.0
