Improving Credit Score

Hi
Dont know if anyone can help or advise please. I was in a lot of debt a couple of years ago which resulted in CCJ's and defaults. Happy to say all that is paid off two years ago and all settled but I still can not get any credit I think it is the CCJ's and defaults.
Do you know if I can do anything to repair or help my credit score, will the cash plus card be of any befinit if I have ccj's or do I have to wait six years for them to clear of my file before I can get any credit?
