Is there any way I can make £200 a month without a job?

Hello - been reading the thread with interest, and wonder if you could help.
I am due to give up work in June because we are having a baby. Maternity pay will last until March next year, but most of that money will be ploughed back into our new house. We live on my husband's salary and it covers us for living expenses, but not a whole lot left over for mortgage overpayments/holidays/savings etc!
I worked out that if I could somehow earn £200 a month to overpay on the mortgage, we can reduce our term from 40 years to 25. But this has to be a constant £200 a month, so things like ebay etc only have limited value as we only have so much stuff.
To give you an idea, I am 26, Hubby is 25 and we have a mortgage of £214,000  . It is our dream house, and when the renovations have been completed, we are hoping that it will have gone up in value, so will be able to get a better rate on the LTV when we come to change mortgages in November next year.
So, without going back to work, how can I make a steady £200 a month???
Thanks,
Di x

Hi Diana
A steady 200pm would probably mean some sort of p/time job I suspect. It is interesting because an extra 200 pm from a stay at home mum or as a top up wage is such a useful sum and the sort of figure I would think is a good target. I looked back at what we've done on Quidco over the last year and it is approaching 700 without too much effort (few insurances, some purchases, sign-ups, credit card sign up, click-throughs). So p/rata that's over 50 quid pm. So if you are not doing Quidco that might help supp the ebay and the like. Only trouble, is having to wait for the pay out which cane sometimes take 3-4 months - but it all helps.0 -
I think you need a part-time job too although Quidco, Ebay, Amazon etc can all bring in bits and pieces.
Cutting back and spending less will obviously help and getting the best deal on everything and not be afraid to haggle.
Match Betting can make you money I have just made £1200 in 2 1/2 months but this will slow down once I have done all the sign up offers. Also if you make a mistake you will loose money so you need to be confident before you go into it and I would not rely on it as a steady income.Moved to Denmark for FIRE by Aug 2025 “May your decisions reflect your hopes not your fears”

the Debt Free wannabee board might be helpful - also the Up Your Income boardweaving through the chaos...0

That's only £50 a week, how about getting a Saturday job like in a supermarket? Not so feasible once you're off maternity leave though. What are you good at? What service could you offer to someone that you can do from your own home? That sounds a bit dodgy haha, but I mean something like bookeeping, admin work, typing, proofreading. Can you make crafts? Cards, jewellery, candles, bath products.0

Matched betting. Head over to the gambling introductory offers loopholes (bloody mouthful, that) board.
It'll take you a good few days to read up on it, and work out the ins and outs and really understand it, but once you've done that, £200 a month will be doable with very little effort. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Matched betting will earn you that easily for quite a while. In fact because it needn't take very long to do you can do one or more of the other things too.0

It isnt a huge earner but every little helps and it depends on how you use it, but mysearchfunds is ok and I have got about £20 per month in it (10 percent of your monthly target) since I started and if you get your friends to sign up too and just change the way you use the internet slightly then you should be able to make that much or more. It does take 45 days to payout though but it might help you!
(if you're not a member, try the refferals board, theres loads of people who could benefit from you signing up)0 -
AQA? They're recruiting for UK researchers at the moment.

At 30p an answer you'd need to answer 667 questions a month to make £200.

I know this is probably a stupid question but I thought you weren't allowed to work while on maternity leave (and receiving maternity pay).
Did I get this wrong?0
