Can I cancel this membership without charge?

Hello all,

It's another gym-based one for you but I'll try and be brief.

I've been a member of a gym for a number of years now but now have the opportunity to use a gym at work instead. Naturally, I want to cancel my standing order to the gym and the membership.

Now, the form I have a copy of has no signature from me on it anywhere EXCEPT for on the 'Instruction to my bank' section. This means I have signed nothing about agreeing to terms, being bound etc. It does have a signature in the standing order box with me agreeing to 24 monthly payments.

It's due to expire next May and obviously I want to get out sooner. Given that I have no other signature on their T&Cs, do you think I can get away with just cancelling the SO and letting the gym know I've cancelled?

What do people think?

Well one argument is that by using the gym you have agreed to their T&C.

I would agree with this, particularly as you have been using the gym for a number of years.
