Bailiff Charges do these sound right?

Hi,
It has been a while since I posted and I feel bad that this is another post for help/advice.:embarasse
A quick history:-
Back in march I had the Bailiff turn up at my house in the end they agreed to send it back to the office and I could make an aggrement to pay with them. Well I rang ever day for a 2 weeks and they kept telling me that the file hadn't been updated and couldn't make an agreement at this time. In the end I didn't ring again as the phone calls were costing me a fortune. So anyway yesterday guess who was knocking on my door... Bailiffs. My Husband rang him as I didn't answer the door. He then said that it was now £488 to pay ( 'we had broken an agreement' I was never able to make one) and it had to paid today. Due to the fact I'm still off work with stress, panic attacks and I'm also pregnant again my husband agreed to pay £250 last night with the balance to be paid today by card to avoid extra costs.
I have a list of all charges and he said he had listed my car (on HP) and the other 2 on the drive they don't even belong to me.
The charges he has added are:-
Attendance to Levy fees - £42.50
Levy Fee - £31.00
Redemption of goods - £24.50
Van Fee - £150.00
I have never let them in to my home.
Are this charges are right? They just seem a little high.
Like I said I'm sorry it is another post for help.
Thank you for any help and advice you are able to give.

Why was the bailiff there? e.g court fines, CCJ, council tax? it makes a difference in what they can charge.
fee for bailiffs in CCJs is £30 when recovering £125 or less
£50 when recovering over £125
other cost relating to bailifffs enforcing CCJ
Walking possesion agreement No fee
Transport of removed goods reasonable costs if no goods removed law is unclear about charge for attending with a van, but is likely reasonable cost could be charged.
Storage of removed goods reasonable charge
Valuation reasonable costs of independant person or 5% of goods value if bailiff values
Sale 15% of the proceeds of sale. The 15% includes any out-of-pocket expenses. If the goods are not sold because the warrant is suspended or the client pays the debt, a charge of 10% of the value of the levied goods will be made plus reasonable transport, storage, valuation and advertising costs already incurred.0 -
Sorry I ment to say it was for Council Tax.0

if the bailiffs have levied on goods that arent yours, you or the owner shouldmake a list of what is/isnt yours of what they have levied on and warn the bailiffs that they will be liable for costs of any goods wronglytaken.
If goods levied are on HP you should provide bailiffs with a copy of any agreement you have0 -
for council tax
The fee that can be charged for levying distress where the sum due is less than £100 is £24.50.

for next £400 4%
for next £1500 2.5%
for next £8000 1%
for ant additional sum 0.25%
Charges for council tax arrears are
Walking possession£12
One attendance with a vehicle with a view to removal of goods where, following the levy, goods are not removedReasonable costs
Removal and storage of goods Reasonable costs
Valuation of goods, at the client's request Reasonable costs, but no charge can be made unless the client has been advised beforehand of the charge and how it is calculated
SaleUp to 15% of the proceeds of sale if the sale is held on auctioneer's premises, plus reasonable out-of-pocket expenses and reasonable advertising costs. Where the sale is held on the client's premises, up to 7.5% of the proceeds of sale, plus reasonable costs.
Where sale due is paid£24.50 or the actual costs up to 5% of the amount of the liability order (whichever is the larger sum).0 -

Spacemonkey - those charges do seem excessive. I would reccomend that you pm Herbie21, or visit her website: http://www.bailiffadviceonline.co.uk
And don't worry - she will, happily, give you the benefit of her experience free of charge.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I will pm Herbie21 now.
Many thanks.0 -
Thank you for your PM. This bailiff is certificated to work for the company concerned.
If there is any wrongdoing in the fee scale, you can always make a Form 4 Complaint about the certificated bailiffs to the court that granted him his certificate.0 -
Many thanks once again Herbie21, I have just made the payments as the stress is just too much at the moment.
I think I could have made a complaint as the car is on HP still and the other car belongs to a friend.0
