payplan

Hi, Has anyone used payplan on here. I am in talks with various debt management companies but I do not wish to pay more fees if I do not need to.

Can you let me know how was your experience with paypal, and did they help with your debts

Many Thanks

Steve

    Welcome

You will get more response if you post up on the main DFW forum as there are a lot more people using payplan, CCCS and CAB for DMPs there.

I talked at length with Payplan when I was considering an IVA, but came to the conclusion that their sole interest was the commission they would earn from my monthly payment.

Payplan very cleverly dress themselves up as a philanthropic, non fee-charging organisation. The truth is that they are a bunch of money-grabbing vultures just like every other parasite inhabiting the 'debt industry'.

My advice to anyone who can is 'Go bankrupt and f*ck the lot of them!'

I have to disagree with this. I am on a DMP with Payplan, and when I initially contacted them, I assumed that I would be advised to go for an IVA, as on the face of it that is what looked likely, in fact the woman taking my details said she though that is what the advice would be. However Payplan came back and said my best option was a DMP - which I have had for 3 years with a couple still to go.

As far as setting everything up is concerned - they were fantastic - great help in putting together I&E statements in a way that would be acceptable to creditors, and they made all the contact to the creditors.

Since then, they have more or less left me alone - from what I hear they are not big on supporting you once you are on it - but I've never needed their help anyway - they call me once every year to see if I am OK - and they are available on e-mail if I need to ask any questions.

I don't regret going on a DMP or using Payplan, but I am thinking of getting out of it, purely because, after 3 years, some creditors are stating to charge interest again (I can't complain), and so would like to snowball my debts to clear them quicker, whereas Payplan will only support a pro-rata distribution

    Payplan don't charge!

It's the other money grabbing vultures that you need to beware of

I found Payplan to be very helpful, the only thing I found was not all of my creditors were willing to stop interest on a DMP.

Give them a call you've nothing to lose!

Payplan and CCCS do not charge for their DMP'S. They both charge for their IVA's.

Payplan is not a charity and CCCS are. Any profit that comes from an IVA with CCCS will go back into the charity. They have to charge for the IVA because of the shear work and professional people that are involved

Payplan will try and get you to sign up for their 'insurance' at a % of your monthly payment.

They also tried to get me to buy car insurance from their 'sister' company. I left them fairly shortly after that particular phone call.

    Never experienced that with CCCS.

I used Payplan after getting nowhere with the other debt charities. Because there was a property and therefore secured debt to deal with I just couldn't get any real advice or help and went through several months of pure hell trying to research what to do. Often it just depends who you get on the phone and their level of experience I'm afraid. CCCS were the worst and the `adviser` sounded too young and uninformed.

My adviser at Payplan was great and spent a long time going through all my financial chaos. Although they also can only help with the unsecured debt in terms of working on a DMP or IVA, he certainly didn't push this onto me at all. He suggested that I could do an IVA if I really wanted to but when I rang and said I had finally made the decision to file for bankruptcy, he said he was really pleased for me and it would the best thing for me (being single, having given up my property for repo and staying at parents house for a while). He was very much on my side and initially told me that I should write to the creditors and tell them I was in finanical diffs using their standard letter to give me more time if I needed it. He also said that he really didn't like IVA's and that the end result was not different to BR in terms of credit rating etc and of course you are stuck with higher payments than BR over the next 5 years. The only advice I decided wasn't for me was when he suggested to save money I let the creditors make me bankrupty instead of doing it myself and paying the fees. I know mainly from this forum that creditors would be reluctant to do this as it costs them more money. Also I wouldn't want to incur the harassment, letters and possible `visits' etc. My court date is 28 April and I am counting the days. Hope this is useful.
