Open Letter To Martin Lewis

hello MARTIN , thankyou for a great site . Can you help with a big problem that many on here are coming up against ? That is, dispite written requests to DCA , they persist in making threatening phone calls . You only need to look at some of the threads to see the size of the problem . Some will say, report them to the OFT . But is seems to do no good at all. In lots of cases people have requested a TRUE SIGNED COPY OF A CONSUMER CREDIT AGREEMENT . Even when these companies have not supplied a CCA within the time scale layed down in the CC ACT , THUS COMMITTING AN OFFENCE , No action is ever taken against them !

Please sign on to this thread if you feel action needs to be taken THANKYOU !

I think you are right it is clearly a huge problem. I think Martin is unlikely to be able to do much about it himself but may be able to put pressure on the OFT and the government. Ultimately though it is about education - educating people about credit agreements and debt and about their rights which I think is a huge task but one which Martin Lewis is already engaged in through this site, through his television appearances and through his teen cash guide as well as working with those wanting to get personal finance into the national curriculum and into schools. Not sure where he would find the time to be honest but a great idea.

I would recommend going to the CAB and letting them know. Each CAB deals with social policy issues such as this and then once enough evidence is gathered they take it to the government to try and get legislation brought in to stop it reoccuring.

You need to keep reporting any issues to the authorities.

The OFT has just received beefed up powers (under the final part of the Consumer Credit Act 2006) to take action against creditors and DCA's that breach guidance and the law.

They have already given 13 DCA/Companies a warning "slap around the chops". :D

That is good news ! Okay so maybe if enough people complain about it , something will be done . But a slap is nothing to these companies . I note none are named .!

Might be an idea for another thread there - name and shame the companies that members report to TS. What details would be relevent/helpful to post up?
