Working from home

Hi,

I'm interested in working from home temporarily. I will do pretty much anything like envelope stuffing/ data entry etc. etc.

I have signed up to loads of survey sites but I'm looking more for a full time job.

If anyone knows any data entry positions or the like, please please let me know.

All thought gratefully received.

Many of these work from homes are a scam. Google search "work from home scams" to get an idea of the way they operate. If you apply for any of them and they start taking the familiar route of asking for money up front etc (the internet google search thing will tell you what to look out for) run a mile. Sadly, many are taken in by this (even me .....but I was young, stupid and greedy :o ) There must be legit opportunities out there, but all I have encountered is scams
  • I'm having that problem Daz. Whilst I have signed up for legitimate survey sites, they do not pay enough.

Before moving on to postgraduate study this August, I will have a spell of around 3 months during which I will have absolutely no money coming in and I need an income which will allow me to pay the bills, buy food etc. I'm not looking to make money, just be able to afford to eat!

Not that I'm an "e-bayer" but some people make extra cash that way. Have you considered a good old clear out?
  • I am a bit of an e-bayer and have sold quite a bit of stuff on e-bay over the past few weeks.

However, at the moment I live in a really small flat so don't actually have that much stuff here to sell. I need to pay my mother a visit and clear out my old room really, though I'm not sure she'd be happy with me popping round to her house and selling everything out of her (now) spare bedroom.

Although selling stuff on e-bay does generate some money, I've found that it hasn't really been enough to cover much of my expenses, although it does help of course.

I'm looking for something similar. Going on maternity leave, losing income but obviously the bills keep coming.

The debt free board suggested proof reading but not got a clue where to start.

  • I've had a look at proof reading, but I haven't had a chance to dig around all that much. Most of what I have seen so far requests that you go on a course and/or send money up front, which I am always sceptical about doing!!

Do you not still get paid on maternity leave? I thought it was 6 months at full pay and the another 6 months at half pay, but the law may have changed since I last came across this issue!

sort of its first 6 weeks at 90% pay then the remaining 33 weeks at £112 ish a week and another 13 weeks unpaid.

Some employers offer enhanced rates but not all.

I have a lot of experience on what companies and orgainsations outsource, offshore, and mechanise.
I wrote a list for piggles of activities that i know can be done working from home, in her envelope stuffing post.

Here are the ones that can't:

Envelope stuffing - Done by machines
Envelope making - Done by machines
Data entry, done in-house or off-shored to china/india companies (cheaper, and as they two or three pass - ie same data entered more than once - more accurate.
Customer Care / Customer contact / Telesales / Lead aquistion - Done in big shed like call centres either here, or offshore.
Sales - On the road, or out of an office.
Marketing / market research -(other than surveys) Office, or at marketing company office.

There are all sorts of telecoms, logistics, labour efficancy, and systems reasons for this.

I would say that any once advertsing any of these as 'work from home' was a 99% likely to be a scam.

Proof reading and writing work need to come from PUBLISHERS, or LITERARY agents, only.
