Help with Boots points and best deal

Hi

I am looking at buying at Sony camcorder from Boots, its the DCR-HC90 on sale at £699 (ouch!) and also available online from another discount online retailer at £527 (via pricerunner) so about £175 more expensive on Boots.com

http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1061325

However with the triple points and a 2000 extra points bonus on this camcorder + 500 extra via a code I think I can get 10,800 points or there abouts, which (im new to the advatnge card) will net me about £108 - is that right?

Also I have an amex card and I remember a while ago something about extra membership reward points but I am not sure if this is still the case?

Suppose my question is, at 10,800 points, - have I got the most I am going to get or is there a code or way to squeeze a few more out? Does anyone know if the amex is still double points and finally any codes to get the price down or points up further!

Mods, if I have posted in wrong forum pls feel free to move :-)

Can anyone beat my 10,800 on this camcorder? lol

thanks
rich

    Hi,
I think that if you look at the T & C's for the triple points it says:

    *Triple points exclusions

    * Items already included in additional points promotions are excluded from this offer.

So unfortunately you wont get as many points as you'd hope- unless theres a glitch ;)

I seem to think someone had posted some codes that work with the boots extra 1000 points. Try grab it thread and do a search, youve got nothing to lose by trying!

There is also a thread on online discount vouchers, just search with the word boots and you should find it. :rotfl:

I think there must be a glitch then as I got right through to the checkout page and showed 10,800 points in the total box - shame Boots dont price match!

Im really sorry for this - call me old-fashioned, but if you could've got this camera for £175 cheaper with another retailer but only earned £108 worth of Advantage points (which obviously have to be spent in Boots again) - why did you go ahead and lose £67 by buying it from Boots? You'd still have got your cashback with your Amex card at the other retailer.

I'm as guilty as the next person with getting carried away with Boots points :) but if it was a choice between saving myself £175 straight off, I know which one I'd take - points or not.

Just my opinion for what it's worth ;)

Yep your right, I will still buy it from the other retailer for the bigger cash saving, I guess I was just making sure there were no other Boots points or discount deals to get the price down to match the other retailer before I purchased.

But like you say, seeing a total of 10,800 points on 1 transaction does get you reaching for the credit card!!!

    cheers

Ah for a minute there I thought you'd lost MSE self-control and gone ahead and bought it!

Well done on your self-restraint!! ;)
