  • no, no, no, no, no!!!!!sorry but no way !!

i was in a similar situation a long time ago and stupidly said yes, you do not want to even know what then happened!

Unless your ex is some very selfless human (which i doubt from what you have said your family think, and fustrating i know, but they are generally right!) then say thank you but no!!

Clear you debt yourself, although that probably seems the hard way, it will be worth it in the end, you will know you did it alone and you owe nothing to anyone!

    good luck

So you would put your families future in jepody, for pride ! Pride comes before a fall. ! Did you get a settlement when you split up ? Lets have some back ground please .

If you have already ruined your credit history and your husbands then if you pay the debt off or not its like that for 6 years.

If you accept the money you will have a ruined credit history for 6 years, untold damage to a marriage and wonder if this wonderful "ex" will call his debt in at anytime.

I agree with the majority here, I'd say tighten your belts, knuckle down, and pay off the debts yourselves. I'm thinking of it from your hubby's point of view, and if you go accepting cash from another guy, that's reeeaaallly gonna hurt. Even if he doesn't say so.

Listen to your family and tell this guy that you won't be accepting his offer, as tempting as it may be. I don't reckon it's worth all the future hassle it could bring... just my 2p's worth anyway.

I might be very tempted but

I know what my mothers generation would have called accepting money in this situation.

You know its not the right thing.

To qualify my previous post...there had to be no strings attached at all....anything like that would make me sick and I'd rather face the OR!

I think the "strings" bit taking the discussion towards Indecent Proposal territory...

Probably not. Unless the situation was exceptional (as IA mentioned) AND this man is a good friend of both you and your husband AND your husband knows all the details and is happy with the arrangement - then I wouldn't touch it. Borrowing money from friends is risky at the best of times - the potential for disaster in this situation is even more.

I would get all the great folks on here to help you pay off your own debts instead! :)
  • No don't even think about it!! You will then be beholding to him & if it's going to upset your Husband, which is understandable, it's not worth it.
Also being bailed out easily, doesn't teach you any lessons about not getting back into debt again.
This is the first time, after paying off debt, instead of consolidating, that I've realised how hard it is to pay back the debt & there's no way I'll go there again!
