Opt out SERPS & Home Responsibilites Protection

I opted out of SERPS in 1990 and for the last 10 years have been raising children at home therefore have not worked or paid National Insurance. Can anyone advise if I would still have received the Home Responsibilities Protection even though I opted out? Also should I opt back in? Thanks in advance.

SERPS is nothing to do with HRP, so yes, you will have been receiving the latter.
Can't help you with your other question, but I'm sure someone will be alomg in the morning who can.
Hope this helps.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Doesnt matter if you opt in or out because you have now NI contributions. So, you may as well be contracted in to save paperwork.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). If you want to stop the insurance company writing to you and asking this question every year, then opt back in.It will make no difference unless/until you start work again, in which case, if you remain opted out, the rebate money will go into the pension you already have.
BTW when was the last time you reviewed that pension? How is it performeing? Is it in low quality funds? Are the charges high?Should it be rejigged or moved to improve its performance?Trying to keep it simple...
