Deb& moving

Hi guys,

I really need help, I have just plucked up the courage to figure out how much I actually owe which is £10,800 which is far more than I thought and it has really upset me as I am sure you can guess!!

The biggest problem I have is that I am moving to another country and I do not know what to do, I have managed to save enough money to pay all the minimum payments for about 3 months but I simply cannot afford to pay my bills in the UK and sustain a life away from here and I do not know what to do!

Do I tell the banks (because I will be back in 12 months) or what?? Please help it's not so much I wanna run away from the debt because I don't!!!

Please help!!!

Can you postpone your departure? Work your backside off for a year, take additional jobs etc until you clear the debt, and then leave free and clear?

If you do a flit, you run the risk of being stuffed for credit for years when you get back. Banks etc don't take kindly to 'I'm off for a year, you'll get nothing till I get back.' You'll also risk accumulating massive non-payment fees while you are away.

  • Yeah, I had thought about it but I have paid for flights, visa etc. it's not really viable for me now to stop and not go, and once you have a visa using BUNAC you cannot turn around because they only issue one in a lifetime. I really do wanna go if I don't go now I will never be able to work again over there because I do not qualify for a skilled worker permit. Complicated immigration stuff, dunno what to do! Do I tell the banks or not or what? Please just generally advice would be amazing!!

If you are going to go, and have no intention/possibility of making payments then I suggest you talk to the CCCS or CAB for advice on your legal position. I know you aren't running away forever, and intend to pay, but if you default on legal commitments, you run a big risk.... I think this might be one for the professionals!!

How long is the visa valid for? I have a mate in the industry who might be able to get some advice on deferring it, rather than losing it. PM me if you want me to ask for you.
