Power of Attorney UK

A friend looking ito this for a family member of hers any hints or tips I can give her apart from going to see a solicitor ?

The law has recently changed in this area and now the only type of power of attorney which can be made in the UK is a Lasting Power of Attorney (you could up until October 2007 make an Enduring Power of Attorney but this is no longer the case, although EPAs made before this date are still valid today).
The process of creating and registering the new Lasting power of Attorney is fairly confusing, since the new document is a lot longer than the EPA so your friend may be best off visiting a solicitor for reassurance -after all the document once registered effectively allows another person to have control over your friends finances.
However you could suggest that she looks on the Office of the Public Guardian website where she will be able to find out a lot more information and I think she will even be able to download the forms from this site.
May be worth a look.
