DAB Digital Radios - Your Questions Answered

What is DAB digital radio? Digital radio means you can access loads more stations, all in digital sound quality. Digital radio can deliver up to three times as many stations as you can get on FM. For example in London you can get 16 stations on FM and 54 on DAB. DAB covers 85% of the population. For more information on the number of stations you can receive in your area simply text the word DAB followed by your postcode to 83252 (texts cost 25p) or go to https://www.digitalradionow.com

Why digital rather than analogue? With DAB digital radio, the interference familiar with analogue radio is virtually eliminated and you experience radio in digital sound quality. You also have access to loads more stations, can get more information on your LCD screen and on some models you can even record and rewind live radio!

What radio stations can I access? You can listen to many more stations, many of which are new and exclusive to digital radio. There is no need to fuss around with frequencies with DAB radio; you just search by the name of the station on your text screen. Digital radio stations in England, Scotland and Wales include Capital Disney, Capital Gold, Century, Choice, Classic Gold, DNN, Galaxy, Heart JazzFM, LBC, Real Radio, Smooth, The Arrow, XFM.

Can I get more information from radio stations with DAB digital radio? Ever listened to a fantastic new tune and not known the artist? You can get loads more information on DAB digital radio.

All DAB digital radio receivers come with a small screen. This screen serves two purposes: first it lets you scroll through a list of stations to find the one you want, and then, once you've settled on a station, it displays a line of scrolling text generated by that radio station.

Most stations already use scrolling text to broadcast their name and music format. Some also identify the track and artist you're listening to, tell you what songs are coming up next, deliver news headlines, sports results, contact web addresses and telephone numbers.

Never miss live radio when your listening is interrupted!

The latest models have a record option so with an internal memory you can record live radio at the touch of a button. On some models you can press the Pause button when you are interrupted, then when you return you can continue listening from the point you left. Alternatively on some models you can just press to rewind live radio! You can’t miss your favourite music or radio programme ever again!

I saw these for 34.99 in my local currys with no mention of being refurbished. They also had the Matsui version (exactly the same but grey, with silver buttons) for the same price. I've just checked out the net, because I would get one - but they don't run on batteries - so no go for me. Could be a bargain for someone though.

This is not a bargain, and is not a very good radio.

The receiver on this radio is very poor and you will be struggling to receive any stations in poor reception areas. I tried one of these in the shop when they first came out and it did not find any channels at all. I tried the Pure and Intempo models and they received channels no problem.

Also bear in mind that this is likely to be the same set as the Matsui DAB, Currys sell new for £34.95 as DSG Retail own the Grundig brand name.

I don't want one of those anyway, I've got a lovely free one that I got from Viking Direct, with a CD player combined and all in stereo, not digital but by gum it has good reception. 1a_y_wink.gif
