A friend of mine has an old PC which does not wan't to do what it is told !!!!
Does anyone know how to completely remove the old system and start completely new with windows 98. He has all the boot discs & software discs.
We have tried the most obvious, like attempting to uninstall programs etc...
Any help greatly received.

are you using windows 98 SE (second edition) ?
is so try the following
create a windows 98 boot disk. (sorry i cant remember where, poss in control panel, or is it right click on desktop, then properties, then system)
then reboot pc from disk
ONLY DO THE NEXT STEP IF YOU WANT TO START WITH A CLEAN DRIVE
then use
format c: /s
this will completely reformat the harddrive, deleting everything on it
reboot pc, select start up with cd support
load win98 cd and bobs your uncle.smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

However!!
Make sure you have all your driver discs for things like graphics cards, sound cards, motherboard, printer and scanner etc before you attempt to completely erase the HD. I believe there is a program now which will backup your drivers if you dont have the original driver discs to hand. The one i have is called mydrivers, it isn't freeware/shareware though im afraid. Alternatively you could go into the control panel and note down the drivers you need and find one of the many driver download websites and download them, storing to a disc.
