Hi, I am in a similar situation. I am German but have been in the UK for the past 13 years. My experience so far is that most translation companies or anyone wanting things translated are looking for people with qualifications and accredited certificates. Check out www.language123.com
You can register there and get requests from potential customers.
Also; do a google search on UK translation companies. You can register with them and up load your CV. It's also a good way of finding out the going pay rate per hour/per word.
Perhaps we should start our very own translation company.
Good luck and let me know how it is going.0 -
Hi there
I'm a freelance translator and highly recommend having a look at proz.com - you can create a profile for yourself to advertise your services, and it's also possible to reply to job advert posts. There is tons of useful info on working in translation, e.g. articles, forums etc. The basic membership is free. You could also try translatorscafe.com, which is the same kind of idea. I'm afraid I don't work in your language combinations (I translate Spanish & Portuguese to English) so I can't give you any specific advice about those areas, but do check out these sites and let me know if I can tell you anything else.
Good luck!
