Warranties on LCD TV

I have just bought a 32 " LCD TV with the usual 12 months guarantee, and of course they wanted me to take an extra 2 year warrantee out. Although I did not do this they say I can take it out at any time before the 12 months is up. I am sure I have read somewhere that there is a Sale of Goods Act that covers things for 6 years. Does anyone know how this works and what type of things it covers.

Yes SOGA applies but I think its after a certain time limit possible a year that the onus is on the consumer to prove that the item could be faulty
These guarantees are a rip off anyway. You can get better deals from the manufacturer and some insurance companies also supply cheaper guarantees. Its just another way these shops make there money

• For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).
• In general, the onus is on all purchasers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty) and should have reasonably lasted until this point in time (i.e. perishable goods do not last for six years).0
