Your income seems low - have a look at entitledto to see if you would qualify for housing benefit/council tax benefit/tax credits.

Your grocery bill seems very low as well - how many people is this for.

There will be some experts along shortly to give you some more ideas.

Well done on posting x x

Is that your wage for a full time job? If so, you need to be looking for something better paid - and if not full-time, can you look at getting a second job?

I know for sure that someone will suggest that your mobile bill is high and suggest that you look for a cheaper tarrif or Pay as you go; is that an option for you?

Are any of your rent arrears included in your current payment?

You have a partner? Is their income from work? Or benefits? You have children? (Child related expenses.........). If so, I think there are ways in which your income could be maximised.

But as your original question was about bank charges I personally feel that I am straying off topic so would reiterate that you need to check the timings of everything to be paid out of your bank and consider opening a new account if the charges on the Barclays account are getting away from you.

  • i had the same problem but with Halifax!! change your account, get your statements, put in a claim so it's waiting when the decision about charges is made, then if you owe the bank any money, send them your SOA and explain you need to set up repayment scheme. If they argue or try to make you pay more than you can afford contact CCCS and get their advice! If it can make the Halifax sit up and listen then I'm sure most other banks will too!

    Hi:j

Well done for posting. I wish i had had as much sense as you when I was young, maybe I wouldn't be in such a mess now!

The only thing I can advise is to sort out your DDs so they come out of your acct on the 1st of every month - or whenever your salary comes in. You then survive on what is left, if you don't have it you can't spend it!

    Lots of luck!

    Hi there...
Do you have an agreed overdraft with you bank? it does'nt sound as if you do. Have you tried asking for one? then you should only get charged if you go over the over draft...if that makes any sense?!
