Powergen to charge extra £42 for gas delivery

I apologise if this has already been mentioned but I can't find it on the forum.

Today I've had another letter from Powergen telling me that gas unit prices will be rising by around 88p a week from 31st August.

At the bottom of the letter it states:

'On your next bill, you'll also see an extra charge. That's because with many newly built houses, an independent network connects your home to Transco, the gas delivery network. This means we pay Transco and the independent network to deliver gas to your home and while some suppliers recover this expense through their gas prices, we prefer being open and charging separately. Our charge will be £42 a year (inc. VAT)'.

Has anyone else had this letter?

As a bonus :rotfl: , included with the letter was a book of money off vouchers that gives me £10 off an eco kettle, 4 energy saving lightbulbs for £4, £200 off a new A rated gas boiler and £150 for cavity wall insulation.

At the present time, I'm getting my gas free from Powergen due to a !!!! up on their part. As soon as they start charging me, I'll be moving supplier.

Same with me. I am currently thinking about moving to London Electric who do not charge a payment for IGT customers. I have just emailed them to find out if the gas rate is higher for IGT customers.
  • Yes I have received the same letter here in SOuth Wales and I too will be looking around for a cheaper supplier

EDF Energy also apparently don't charge extra for IGT.

EDF (whom I'm switching to at the moment) & British Gas seem to be the only ones who don't make the IGT charge.
  • Powergen do a capped energy price until jan 2008 . I think you will find that all energy costs will go up soon as oil prices soar.

I'm agonising over whether or not to go for Powergen's capped price option. Today's my decision deadline as prices go up again tomorrow. Surprisingly, I can find no information in the main site or any forum posts regarding capped power bills in moneysavingexpert.com.

I did all the very complex sums and it does actually work out at 10p per day more than the regular price. On the other hand, the price per KWh is then fixed until Jan 2008. I may have to toss a coin to decide.

Thanks p2p, but I'm already familiar with this page. It's more the concept that I need advice with. It's a gamble switching to a capped energy tariff. Is the gamble worth taking?

I took the gamble. I'm now on capped dual fuel online energy from Powergen.

I wonder why no-one seems interested in this topic and there's no available information. I would have thought that the introduction of new types of tariff would be of interest on this web site.
