We don't do anything out of the ordinary on Xmas Eve or boxing day so its just Christmas day itself for us.
brekkie - HM english muffins with bacon and mushrooms or eggs benedict.
Lunch - No starter, I'm the only one who'd want one so we don't bother! Main course will be turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing (got to be paxo sage and onion for me lol!), LOADS of sprouts, carrots, cauliflower cheese, gravy. Xmas pudding and custard or white sauce if I can get it.
Tea - this is usually a case of get what you like from the fridge when you feel a bit peckish! Usually cold turkey, ham, leftover pigs in blankets, leftover stuffing, cheeses, pickles, coleslaw, pringles etc0 -
Since it's usually just the two of us for Christmas dinner, I don't go overboard cooking. We'll generally have a hot breakfast, eggs, bacon and tea usually.
Dinner is going to be honey roast goose, rice casserole, carrots and peas. OH will have a small christmas pud for himself and I might have some chocolate or gingerbread.
We just eat nibbles for tea later and OH's and FiL's birthday cakes.
I might get a tray of nuts and pretzels this year for munchies, keep OH from poking around the kitchen.:DDec GC; £208.79/£220

:AOh Gosh!! Some of your descriptions of your days have left me all warm and fuzzy. You all make it sound lovely and cosy.
I'm trying so hard NOT to get caught up in the duty of it all. I'm blessed, truly blessed and I am really trying to remember that. I'm not the tidiest of individuals (neither his DH or DS) so at this time of year getting respectable to welcome visitors is a challenge.
My husband always says I'm a weirdo because I like nothing better than staring into all the wee lives going on through windows as we pass in the car. he says this website is an extension of that:p (he's right)Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -

I know exactly what you mean, particularly at this time of year when all the houses are full of lights and decorations.Back after a very long break!0 -

So we will be having no starter, dried up turkey, lumpy, overboiled carrots and parsnips mashed together with a fork, sprouts that will have been boiled for an hour, boiled ham (that'll be quite nice though, it's hard to mess up a boiled ham), Aunt Bessies roast potatoes and Bisto gravy. Followed by sherry trifle, which I hate.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:reminds me of my friend whose mum gets up early to put the sprouts on!Main meals will be pheasant with red onions in red wine, with braised red cabbage and pommes Dauphinois
I'd love to pick your brains on this spirit. A friend of mine has given me a brace of pheasant (all ready prepared and now in freezer) from a shoot. I've never cooked or eaten them. I was wondering about how to cook and what accompaniments. Is the red wine & onions a separate dish or is that a way of cooking pheasant? I though of doing it for dinner when we have people round in the new year. How many will a brace feed? Sorry for all the questions:o
I haven't done my menus for Christmas yet. There's only the four of us on the day (only two for breakfast) so no big marathon of cooking. I've loved reading this thread for ideas. We always have a traditional lunch on the day and leftovers on Boxing Day. I'm thinking hard about Christmas Eve. It's only DH and myself but I like to do something nice. I'm fancying something with Dauphinoise potatoes, maybe duck (have tins of confit which is very easy) or perhaps gammon.
Keep them coming!:D0 -
I wish my DH was more adventurous so I could cook some of these gorgeous recipes.
Xmas Eve - a chickpea biryani and chocolate cake with cherry sauce and cream for dessert (both HM)
Xmas day - Brunch - american blueberry pancakes and maple syrup and english pancakes with lemon and sugar
Then drive DD to her dad's, come back home for Champagne cocktails and silly playstation games.
Xmas day dinner - duck with roast potatoes, sprouts, carrots and broccoli, cranberry sauce (becuase I like it) and stuffing and wine
Followed by lemon mouse style dessert and cappachino pots (one dessert each because why should I do all the cooking!)
Supper - chocolates and sweets as we open our presents about midnight.
Boxing day - baked ham and salad with new potatoes. Left over chocolate cake soaked in kirsch (in case it's gone stale!) and cream.

Don't knock it until you've tried it, it might be yummy!:rotfl:0 -
Xmas Eve
Lunch
Stuffed trout & lemon and parsley couscous.
Supper
Homemade pizza & popcorn
pre -midnight mass
mulled wine/cider/apple juice + hm mince pies
post midnight mass
herbal tea or irish coffee
Xmas brekkie
stewed forest fruit crepes + brand cream/soya icecream.
crouse
sliced hm honey roast ham sarnies made with proper bread
lunch
3 bird roast + more roasted veg than you can shake a stick at from sweet & irish tatties to parsnips and the usual sprouts red cabage etc. I aim to reduce costs by loading LOTS of veggie variety on the plate.
Mums Xmas pud and brandy cream/soya icecream
tea -
either veg soup and nice bread OR cheese fondue + left over honey roast ham/meat & veggies from lunch + nice bread. Booze or shloer grap juice
My homemade xmas cake (I make an extra cake and swap it with my Mum for her puds which are divine each year to save on work) + fruit and cheeseboard
Boxing day
brekkie = toast/left over pancakes/whatever
Lunch = steak/vension/guinesss pie. Slow cooked meat with pastry top on the day so minimal kitchen effort after the big roast.
The fondue/left over trick has another night left in it and there's always fruit and nuts out for peeps to munch on as well as the cheese and Xmas cake so noone goes hungry.
Day after boxing day will be tuna steaks and rice + fruit salad for main meal as by then everyone is ready for summat a lil lighter.
Any leftovers will find their way onto pies/soups etc for the freezer on this day & I'll trot off to the shops to play hunt the yellow label in the meat and nut aisles for some yellow labels to stretch the jan grocery budget.0 -
Had to change my plans for Xmas day now and do something else as I did an early Xmas lunch at OH's family yesterday (they live 6 hours away from us so we won't see them next week) which was chicken, gammon, pigs in blankets and all the trimmings. Then off to my dad's today to find he had turkey and gammon! I can't face another turkey on Sunday. It will just be me and OH for Xmas this year.
Xmas Eve will be Waitrose curry as we're driving back to London and its in the freezer.
Xmas day breakfast probably bacon sandwich.
I'm now thinking about a Greek Lamb kleftiko with potato dauphinois for lunch.
Supper will be charcuterie and cheese board (would love to make a game terrine but no idea how!)
Boxing day will be shepherds pie with the left over lamb for lunch. I might make home made sausage rolls and feta filo triangles with some dips for supper if I can be bothered. If not it'll be a frozen pizza and wine.0
