Just wanted to say, that I had 3 different callers/companies actually knock on my door and guess what? 2 of the callers actually live on my estate suffice to say that they live in the executive homes further up the estate. I recognised him from the huge red Jaguar car that he drives past on his way home. When he did not get a reply first time, (left bumf in letterbox) he even had the cheek to slow down and stare in my window the next time, so I gave him a huge wave!!!

Jeez Dodec, I can't believe they actually knocked on your door, that's disgraceful. We both got the letters the day after we went BR, I hope they don't come calling, I really don't need them hassling me now I've got the bailiffs of my back.

At least it will be easier to tell them where to go. :rotfl: :rotfl:
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Dalip my house is in a cul-de-sac too- my neighbours seem to know every move I make  . They comment if I get home late, early etc- they never seem to sleep either, theyre on constant vigil. Its good from a burglary point of view- they watch anyone who appears on the street who dosnt live there.
I live on a very similar street Dalip. We have a very active neighbourhood watch - the are mostly retired people who are in their garden all day everyday. Thats why I already have my answer ready if anyone sees my name in the paper.:p

I reassured myself in a most bizarre way. Following a link from here sometime back, to the Newspaper in London that publishes all bankruptcies (can't remember what its called-some sort of Gazette) I put in my postcode (and other postcodes and names of towns etc) and to my (somewhat sick) joy discovered 36 people that I knew who were bankrupt. Including my friends architect (for a second time) who she had been unable to contact for 3 months. At the time (on here) people got very angry with me for suggesting I had enjoyed this experience, but to be honest I felt like such a social leper after the local school secretary had told me they all knew about the bankruptcy (arghh) that I really did find comfort in finding out I knew some other bankrupts.

  • Not sure this will make you feel better but my Grandmother was a big gossip - knew who was doing what in the street and so on. When she died we discovered she had a secret which in her mind was far more scandalous than any of the gossip she peddled. She'd had an affair in the war and had a baby (my dad) by a man who wasn't her husband (her husband was a horrid horrid man). We take great delight in telling everybody her secret because actually if she'd been more open her life would have been a lot better and I suspect her interest in other people's comings and goings would have been a lot less. So all these old dears gossiping probably have big secrets themselves - next time you feel they are gossiping imagine what they are hiding! You could even ask them what secrets they have if they confront you - I bet they had a lot of fun in the war with the US and Aussie airmen just like my grandmother :-)
