Abbey not accepting offer

This has suddenly flared up again to cause a great deal of distress.

About 2 years ago, I ran into debt with Abbey through unplanned overdrafts - I can't even remember what caused the overdrafts now. The debt totals £153.

At the time I approached them to attempt to make an agreement with them to pay what was reasonable for me at the time. However, they turned me down, claiming that they didn't believe the amount I offered (£25 from my £150 wage packet each month) was not acceptable. I then paniced and buried my head in the sand, and Lord bless me, I honestly thought it had worked. I heard nothing until a phone call out of the blue on Friday from Abbey claiming they want the money back, otherwise it would be issued to debt collectors. I explained the situation and they said that due to "previous encounters", I was not 'eligable' for a payment plan and the balance was to be paid in total.

After discussing this with my mum, we don't know what to do. We've found the debt collection agencies have been fairly reasonable with setting up their own payment plans, so should we wait until they contact us? I can't afford to pay the balance in full. =/

Wait until you are contacted by a DCA and then post again.

£25 per month is more than reasonable. In fact if you can save that much I might think about offering £50-£75 as a full and final settlement deal.
