Quick Question about council tax and different councils..

Hi All,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I just wanted some advice on my council tax bill...

I was advised on this forum by fellow DFWs to ask my local council to basically allow me to pay my bill over 12 months instead of 10 and they have refused to allow this despite me telling them the difficulties that it will cause... To which the lady kindly replied that if I am late paying then they will request the whole years tax up front and if I don't cough up then I will be taken to court... If I can't pay the full amount over 10 months how on earth am I going to afford it all in one go!!!!

Is there anything I can do so that they take me more seriously...

Many Thanks in advance

Don't think so no. Not all councils allow 12 month payments and I think posting it on every person's SOA is misleading. Sorry.

What Gemmzie said. Different councils expect payment over 10, 11 or 12 months. It's just chance as to what your local council does.
Try and turn a negative into a positive by enjoying having two CT-free months in the year. :)

  • try and see if they will let you do it over 12 months by direct debit. i used to work for council tax department and they used to be more lenient when it was being paid by ddebit.

it depends who you get on the phones sometimes and how much of a bad day they have (i know it shouldn't)

or put pressure on and ask to speak to supervisor, usually works just so they haven't got you on their back.
