cheap versions of brand choccy bars

Hi all

I've started buying the Basics versions of named choccy bars, difficult to resist at 40p for a multipack, but felt conned today when I read the 'per 100g' label on a pack of Chocolate Caramel Wafers.

Basics (supermarket) were 40p for 5, but because they are so light they worked out at £1.74 per 100g.

The named version, whilst 80 something pence for 4 are more pricey, they work out at only 36p per 100g!!!!! They are that much heavier you get much more for your money, but there's only 4 in a pack. I felt cheated!

Has anyone found similar products??

I wont name the suermarket, but the clues are there!

Hmmm.. a tough one. I tend to buy these because the weight doesn't bother me with single unit packets of things like this - I'd still eat one with lunch if they were 20 g or 50 g in weight. So in this case 80p would last 4 days with the branded ones and 10 days with the others. So I'd buy the cheap ones and I'd eat less chocolate overall which is better for me. I think if you look at it like that then it doesn't sound as bad. :)

On a related note, I thought that I would try Morrison's own brand chocolate covered wafers (similar ot KitKats). I needn't have bothered, they were all lopsided and some had chunks of solid chocolate instead of wafer. I can see why they were nearly 50% cheaper.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)

I'm sorry but I find this a bit unlikely, do each of the choccy biscuits weigh only 4.5g?
    For 100g to cost £1.74 there needs to be 4.35 packs at 40p to make 100g (4.35 x 5 in each pack = 21.75 biscuits in 100g)

I've had a look at the tesco website and their value choc wafers weigh around 25g each (I used the cals per 100g and per portion to work out weight per portion), therefore the pack of 5 weighs 125g and therefore 100g of these are 32p.

Which supermarket did you get yours from as they do seem very bad value for money?

    It's only a game

recently the co-op had multipacks (5) mars bars for a pound (good value i thought as normally over 40p each) i bought them with the idea of making mars bar crispie cakes (just needed recipie from a friend), you've guessed it they did not last long enough to get the recipe - and i bought 2 lots!!

I didnt think we were allowed to name shops which is why I hinted with the 'Basics' name. Mr Jamie Oliver may be able to assist. hint hint.

each bar weighs 28g. As for the maths Im quoting the ticket prices. I couldnt work it out for myself. Hope this helps.

that makes it 40p for 140g - under 30p for 100g. sometimes the shelf tickets are wrong.
