corned beef question

Does it always smell like cat food?
I've only recently started eating meat again and thought I'd try corned beef hash - tried it last night but it smelt just like a tin of cat food - is this normal or was it just the brand I tried (princes) - I know I don't like their tinned tuna

Just wondering whether it's worth trying again with another make or just accept I don't like it

I usually buy own brand corned beef and have never noticed it smelling like cat food:eek: .....maybe you just dont like it , like you said . What do you put in your hash..maybe your recipe needs spicing up a bit?

Did you have the cornbeef in the fridge. I always think it looks like a certain brand of catfood if its is straight from the cupboard but looks more solid and less smell if been in the fridge overnight.

i'm a veggie but cook meat for OH and children and i always think corned beef smells like cat food. but not so much as tinned chickpeas.

I love Spam though!! I remember school dinners...spam fritters....yum!

Had it out of the cupboard so might try another make and keep it in the fridge - I used to like it in the old days before I went vege and I don't remember it tasting like that!

Never noticed tinned chick peas smelling like cat food though


Oh and my hash was made with baked beans, mashed potato (although it was packet mash as I'd run out of potatoes) tin corned beef, cheese and wocestershire sauce so probably could have done with a bit more flavouring/spice

Mmmmm corned beef hash.
I found a fab recipe on here for it-was just wondering what to cook for lunch that would be quick
Onions and cheese are the vital ingredients in it for me

Yes it does smell like cat food.LOL
Just wondered if the reason it smelt different to you now is because you were vegetarian. My DD2 is veggie and at first said everything tasted bland. She has now got used to it and loves her veggie food. The only thing she has noticed is that when i cook meat the smell is very strong to her. Just a thought.
