Is it possible to recycle without clutter?

I have a large plastic storage container in the car and whenever I go to the village (usually twice a week) I go to the Morrisons recycling bins.
I used to store it in the garage but my husband deems this as HIS space.0 -
We have the stackable lidded boxes from Ikea.

You can put the items in without having to lift the box on top. They are white but not see-through so you can't see the rubbish inside (and visitors can't see how many bottles of wine you've drunk!). They actually don't look too bad in the kitchen. Today in Tesco I noticed that they have a pack of 3 stackable lidded boxes for recycling reduced to half price (£12.50). They are dark green with a white lid. Not as big or sturdy looking as the Ikea ones though, but a good price.0 -
Our back yard used to look like a tip - it was full of bags of recycling! after the last big storm it was chaos. OH finally gave in a bought a garden store chest which holds most of the plastic recycling sacks. Unfortunately, we still collect more plastic bottles etc than we can store neatly.
We have a fortnightly kerbside collection for tins, bottles and paper ONLY.
If you can get to the local recycling centres there is the option for plastics, cardboard, tetrapacks etc etc, but it is a car drive in the wrong direction, so we aim to go every three weeks.
It seems that our local authority has no idea about targets etc as it makes no attempt to encourage recycling.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Anybody interested in finding out where their local authority stand in the Recycling League Table?

Have to say that I'm ashamed of ours! 392nd out of 393!!!! We have been told that a new recycling system is starting in June - will see if that fares any better than the current one.
I think much of it is down to not knowing exactly what to put in which bin - the new system should make things simpler. But there are lots of households around here where they put out 2 full wheelie bins each week - some of them with lids that won't close properly. I've suggested that the Environmental Services should do 'Roadshows' in neighbourhoods for people to come along and ask questions for more information - combined with a 'green week' in schools it could prove to be a great incentive. It's very often the children in families that are the innovators - they want a decent planet for their future!0 -
Interesting link.
Please to see we are 70th. Our council has done quite a bit to promote recycling and they did numerous roadshows at all the schools and local fayres etc.
We used to have recycling bags but we are all now getting an actual recycling bin which I think will encourage even more people as its much nicer to have one bin than numerous orange bags piling up as collection is fornightly.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712

I am planning to purchase a set of these from Tesco.com for my recycling, as soon as I have raised cash from my ebay exploits!
