Hi,
I don't know if I'm exactly on the right forum here, but my mum has recently been diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease and I'm wondering if firstly my dad would be able to apply for attendance allowance, and secondly does this affect their state pension

Your mum may be able to get Attendance Allowance for her Parkinson's. See http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/DisabledPeople/FinancialSupport/DG_10012425
Your Mum applies for it, not your Dad.
No, it does not affect state pension or any other income. It's non-means-tested and non-taxable. It does however give entitlement to a few other things e.g. the WarmFront heating grant.

Get in touch with your local Citizens' Advice Bureau as soon as possible and they'll not only give you advice, they will help you and your mum fill in the forms to your best advantage. For instance, if your mum feels better on some days than others, you should always put the effects on the worst day, not the best. They will definitely be really helpful to you.
For anything similar, there's a silver savers section in the 'for who we are' board.0 -
Your dad may be able to apply for carer's allowance (or 'underlying entitlement' as he is receipt of a state pension) and they may be able to get a 1 band reduction in their council tax. You can try entitledto.com to see what benefits you may be entitled to.I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0
