Hi everyone,
I've been a lurker for the last few months and have read so many brilliant tips about saving money and making money. So I thought I'd share one of my saving ideas with you all.
My husband leaves lights on all the time without even noticing, so I've decided to fine him everytime I go into a room and find a light on. We now have a jar in the kitchen that he has to deposit a set amount of money into it each time he's caught. However, I've been fined myself. Yesterday it was so sunny, I didn't notice the light left on in our bedroom.:rotfl:
My kids aren't old enough yet for pocket money, but what about telling kids that if they leave the lights on, a little will be taken out of their pocket money each time.
It's a game between us now and it has really worked.
Let me know what you think.

I like your thinking! I just explain how much each incident costs us and means there's less left for them....For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070

Sounds like a great idea. However in our house I am the worst culprit for leaving lights on .... so maybe will give it a miss.:rolleyes:0

Nice idea MamaSaver.
Bismarck, how do you calculate the cost? What is a rough estimate for one light bulb left on for an hour, say?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
(shifts uncomfortably with guilty feeling and notes to self......think before you brag about moneysaving tips)...
I did look at the cost per bulb over an hour, based on wattage and the scary thing was that the things that my Dad used to go berserk about, whose ideas I copied made very little difference...bulbs/hour are less than I thought so I've switched my attention mainly to the heating....you wouldn't believe how unpopular I am sometimes! For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... Thanks for the link Bismarck, I've just saved myself £1.76 a month by vowing to give up the iron & hoover
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hmmm, you're really putting yourself through hell for the cause aren't you?
If I take it to one logical conclusion, I can remove 90% of our electrical appliances, save a bundle (still keep my computer and music stuff of course) and maybe the kids will leave home...wonder if there's a calculator for that? For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends...
