    Hi All,

I am new to the website. I've read this thread with great interest however.

Sorry to highjack the thread, but I have a similar debt problem to WAP's.

    I've lost around £45K in gambling :(

I've now come to my senses and managed to stop my gmbling habits.

I have about £25K debts to the bank (unsecured).

I don't think I can recover mentally without leaving the country - as this was a huge loss for me - I lost all of savings as well :(

I wonder whether the bank will use international debt collectors to collect the debt if I go to New Zealand.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    thanks
    Sanjay

Hi Sanjay, sorry to hear about the gambling problem, glad you have put a stop to it now.
You really need to start your own thread in order to get some sensible support and advice.
Re your debts and going to New Zealand, unless you happen to have an NZ passport, you need to look at the NZ embassy website to see what the requirements are to obtain a visa to work there or to migrate there.
This may involve providing information about your financial status here.
Check out the information and then reflect on it.
I can understand you wanting a fresh start, but you could achieve this by moving to a completely different part of the UK.

    Thanks Tustastics!

I already have a PR for New Zealand (Got it while I was in India)

But came here to try out possibilities of getting a decent job..but now all of my savings are gone :( its a vicious system.. but I don't have anyone but myself to blaim.

Yes, I really want a fresh start.

I am more worried about things like

    1) Offense caused by leaving unsettled debts

    2) Credit rating in the new country

    3) International debt collectors.

anyway, I will start a new thread... and see how it goes

    thanks!

    Sorted then, just go. :)

Yup, your creditors would be pretty offended all right, if you just upped and left. :D

Credit rating in NZ would be based on your conduct in NZ. Overseas conduct has no bearing. :)

About as likely as me winning the lottery tonight. Doesn't happen mate.

Enjoy your new life, including the NZ ice cream.

    Hi all,

One thing I forgot to mention is that My family and I might want to come back to the UK for a Visit - for a Holiday - in the future.

I don't want my actions to cause any issues for my Son for example, who might want to visit the UK in the future.

So my question is, will having any unsettled debts be an issue when coming back to the country for a visit?

    thanks!!

Nope, no issue at all. :)
