I've recently been diagnosed with high BP consistently around 230/130 and i'm an otherwise healthy 29 year old who's been a nurse for 10 years. No apparent cause but we're still investigating that before commencing medications....
To answer a question earlier, there are no definitive readings where a doctor would automatically sign you off work/start medication/admit you to hospital as like anything else in life, it is governed by many other things- how you feel, are there any symptoms, family history, cause of the raised BP. My GP was happy for me to go straight back to work although the A&E team who initally picked up on it wanted me admitted immediately.
A colleague of mine has even higher BP pushing 300 systolic but also feels well and is working happily with this.0 -

So I was right about the NHS being the cause

i think i am right in saying garlic is good for your heart and fish and tomatoes so would probably help for high blood pressure if these are in your dietThe average woman would rather have beauty than brains,
because the average man can see better than he can think.
Many people's view of the world is down to their experience, perception and what they have been conditioned to,this isnt any old MSE reply this is a important and experienced MSE reply :rotfl:0 -
Hi
Has anyone heard of the high K-factor diet?? Ie increasing the ratio of potassium to sodium in your diet, not by using supplements but by eating foods that are high in potassium and low in sodium.
I've had high bp since I was 23 and I'm desperate to get off the medication and lower it naturally. Anyway, I've started following the diet and am hoping its going to work. The book I've got is "The high blood pressure solution" by Richard D Moore. If anyone else has tried it I'd love to know if they got results. The only problem is the book is American and so lots of the brands they suggest are American. (I haven't been able to find a comprehensive UK version).
I'll let you know how i get on!0
