We did have one. It did help reduce condensation. Unfortunately, I think we bought a lemon because we had to keep sending it back for fixing. >:( My friend who had the same make and model has been using hers for years. Another friend who bought the same make but different model are still using theirs.
The maker is Ebac.0 -
We have a damp cellar and used one for three yrs until it `gave up`. It kept the cellar dry & damp free.
Purchased mine from Homebase in a sale but it couldn`t be repaired :-/.
I am waiting for a refurbed one to arrive, we purchased it from ebay. A 12 month gaurantee was included and is essential for a dehumidifier as they can be `fickle` and expensive to repair.
They do work but are not always the answer in the long term. The size of the dehumidifier is determined by the size of room or house etc.
Oh ...Ebac are usually good & reliable by the way.0 -
thanks for yor info?
however, any long term solutions?
any advice appreciated as i am having alot of problems with condensation. this started really after having double glazing installed. and despite having window open most of day. my small bedrooms outside wall is nearly black.0 -

Do you have cavity wall and loft insulation? I ask because, when we moved into our "immaculate" house a year ago, our bedroom wall started going mouldy and black on one side. We contacted our local Town Hall and they advised us to go through British Gas to have the house insulated to warm up the temperature and stop the bad condensation we were experiencing. It's helped a lot and you also get an "automatic" grant, so it cost £310 rather than about £720 from memory (not sure if this applies if you go through other companies rather than BG). Bear in mind ours is a detached house, so a semi/flat, etc. could work out a lot cheaper.
I know it's still a lot of money, but it could well help a lot towards your problem if you're not insulated already. It'll also keep the house warmer and save towards fuel costs.
If you're already insulated, don't know what to suggest I'm afraid, apart from getting a condensation expert in to advise you. Sounds as if you have a problem that needs a long-term solution ... dehumidifiers will only mask the problem.

thanks,
recently had double glazing, new roof and loft insulation put in.
problem seems to be getting worse.
didn't have these problems prior to above works being carried out.
am at my wits end.
phone damp experts/companies but their reply is they only deal with rising damp i.e. at ground floor level.0 -
Why not try what I did? 'Phone your local council/Town Hall and they'll give you some useful advice.
