I am after an acer laptop and having seen one on the comet website I wondered if anyone knew of any codes for Comet? Or if anyone knew any online stores that do cheap new acer laptops

    Hi,

Ive had an acer for about a year. Found it to be pretty reliable however battery life in mine, and most of their current models is poor. If this is a priority for you look at some other models.

Comet seem to have a deal with Acer and are getting some models at excellent prices. Their ACER AS2312LM is superb value for an entry level model (with poor battery life). No codes exist for Comet as far as I know although you can get cashback through greasypalm etc. and Comet has free delivery on this model. This model is low on memory but you can get another 256mb Ram from ebuyer for about £18, depends how much heavy use you will put it through.

I recently bought a laptop for my sister and toyed with the Acer but in the end bought the Hp nx6110 from ebuyer (at that time it was about £415) because it was lighter and had double the battery life. Extremely happy with it on receipt and glad about the choice. Ebuyer have increased their price lately on this model but you might find it for about the same as the Acer.

    Finally,

Woolworths have a Medion laptop on offer now for £399 with the same specs as the Acer. However, Id go for the Acer between the two models.

On balance if you want a good battery life choose the HP is not, the Acer.

    Hope this helps.

Not wanting to be jumped on from a great height nor sued!, but I used to work for Acer.

Computers are good, but their customer service is appalling - worse than AOL and Argos put together.

Also, many, many years ago they sold their stuff via Argos and Argos dumped them within a year due to the complaints they had - with service and product.
  • Feel compelled to add my bit as would definitely NOTrecommend Acer!

We bought an Acer laptop last year from PC World and the screen broke after 6 months. Took it back to PC World but apparently Acer opt out of the PC World repair service so had to send it back to them to fix. They said we would have it back within 5-10 days but it actually took 6 Weeks! (waiting for spare part to come from Taiwan was one of the many excuses).

Customer service is apalling - nobody's bothered when you can actually get through to them and now we are in dispute regarding some compensation which they are refusing.

If there's a different laptop you could buy I would recommend you avoid Acer after our experience.
