IF the holes are caused by moths (case-bearing clothes moths), look for little rice-like bits which house the moths. IF there are moth larvae about, sort it quickly! I am in the process of trying to rid the house of these moths/larvae which have chomped away at the wool carpet.
IF it is due to moths, consider pheromone moth traps (apparently March/April is a good time to get them). Moth eggs can lay dormant for a couple of years.
Incidentally, we invested in some Protector C pesticide to spray on the carpets - wish we'd done it sooner rather than just use the cedarwood moth repellents. After all, they have to go somewhere when they have been repelled!0 -
overloading the washing machine can cause it too.as it forces the fabric through the holes in the drum, which then catch on the machine.
i have been guilty of this on many occasions, but do smaller loads now.:hello: :j0 -
I have had some moth problems a couple of years ago and bought some mothballs and put them here and there in cupboards and wardrobe, ie. wherever I have clothes or any other article made of fabric.
Also, as HJ says lavender works well or even some of those cheap and nasty perfumes - just soak some cottonwool with it and put in drawers. Trouble is that you yoursefl might hate the smell of it...Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

i cant work out where or why tho cos there dont appear to be any sharp bits on them at all.
Hi,
i get this and my DH does to. ours are always our belts or when we get too close to the desk and rub against that. its true too as I havent been working for last few months and lo and behold, none of my clothes that i wear now have any holes!

I am off to work shortly so when I finish I will nip inot town and try and find some mothballs,
I am sure it isnt my washing machine as the holes look like little holes that have been nibbled..October grocery Challenge

What I have noticed is fair-size holes in the armpits of 2 (pretty new:mad: ) wool jumpers - and had to throw them out as a consequence. Same style jumpers from same shop - so have been wondering whether its anything to do with not having been made to usual quality by the shop concerned and having pulled at seams during wear? Dont know - will stick some lavender essential oil on cotton wool ball and hang in soapnuts muslin bag in wardrobe anyway - guess that will do trick if it is moths.?
(better yet - just located some nylon hold-up stockings still in their packs - will use them - you know you're getting older when you use nylons for purposes like this, rather than male delectation and delight - hope the moths appreciate the lacy tops - LOL).0
