I don't know if this is the correct forum to place this.
Following a problem i have ongoing with paying some money into the wrong account via an online payment: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=85163
..I found a useful link to find banks via the sortcode.
However, it also lets you search for banks/postcodes/addresses, it checks to make sure a bank account/sortcode are valid (oh, and rather randomly - it gives you your nearest phones4u shop locations!! - I guess that's the sponsors then!)
It says you can do 8 searches every 24 hours. It might be the thing you only use the once, but after a bit of time on google, this was the only sortcode lookup site that i could find.
If this helps anyone - i guess the post is worth it.
