Paid money to wrong Sort Code? Advice needed please

Hi there, I've paid for something via a bank transfer (online) but it appears that I've paid it into the wrong sortcode, but right account number. I don't know where this has gone to as I tried to check the sortcode online but can't find anything. As this was a week or so ago, the payment is no longer pending so I can't…

You should have the money returned to you eventually, because as I understand it anyone who receives a sum not rightly owed may be considered to be holding that sum under the legal concept of "constructive trust".

However, like other people have pointed out it can be a long haul in getting it back.
